deep dive into the RWB archive with tim nelson and sam netterfield. they wowed us by choosing some key pieces from renaissance dinosaur, the oracle and a wonderful creature from the weird science collection. see the full interview and studio visit as captured by samuel hodge and styling by kurt johnson.
the last 18 months have been such a strange time, how are you guys feeling at the current moment?
right now, I’m feeling pretty good! It’s been a huge change of pace and a beautiful opportunity to slow down and restore. it hasn’t all been super fun though. playing shows and connecting face to face with people who enjoy our music brings me a lot of joy and energy, so i’ve kind of had to learn to exist without that and allow myself to find joy in other things.
"my hope and dream is that we abolish billionaires, redistribute wealth, invest in sustainable industries, complete and implement nikola tesla’s world power system, give land back to its rightful owners and live in acknowledgement of the connectedness of all things."
with that in mind, what shifts have you experienced, whether psychic, spiritual, emotional, during this time?
i feel like there’s a global shift happening where groups of people are waking up to the interconnectedness of all things. you can feel it on a community level and see people becoming more aware and vocal regarding human rights. i feel like the small portion of happenings in the world that we’re actually aware of can skew our perception of where the world’s at, but i really believe that all people are connected to each other on a soul level and if an individual chooses to live in love, then it inevitably raises everyone else up through that connection, even with people you may never meet.
we totally believe in this sentiment as well. connection with our audience is a sacred relationship and is also the reason we exist and have the energy to keep going. being a musician is a different kettle of fish however, so how has it been for you not being able to tour? on top of this, you obviously love playing live so how has your process shifted and changed while we have all been locked inside the country?
i’ve loved getting to lay low for the first time in a few years. our dogs missy and evie are 12 and 13 now, so getting to spend this time with them is such a special gift. i still think about playing shows and touring most days though - i feel safest and most like myself when I’m on stage sharing space with cub sport fans, so not getting to experience that feeling
you guys are younger than us, how do you see the world in the next 20 years? what are your hopes and dreams?
i saw a TikTok about how the moon is allegedly going to ‘wobble’ in the 2030s and mess with the tides so I’m not looking forward to that lol. i don’t really know, to be honest. it feels a bit overwhelming. you ask yourself ‘why is the world the way it is?’ it feels like the people who have the power to make big changes aren’t going to, because they’re completely funded and supported by the very industries that are killing the world. my hope and dream is that we abolish billionaires, redistribute wealth, invest in sustainable industries, complete and implement nikola tesla’s world power system, give land back to its rightful owners and live in acknowledgement of the connectedness of all things.
growing up, did you have any aussie icons... was it true you didn't know who tina arena was or did I miss hear? either way, is there someone now who you really admire anywhere in australia or the world? (or both)
tina arena is 100% an aussie icon and i definitely know who she is haha! growing up i was really obsessed with delta goodrem, missy higgins, savage garden and the veronicas. it’s wild ‘cause I’m friends with jess and lisa now and darren hayes texts me sometimes. i really admire the kid laroi - his enormous global rise makes me really happy.

we definitely have similar tastes and we really had a fun day with you, samuel and kurt doing this shoot. how do you feel about dressing up, we love how fashion can transform you, is that something you enjoy?
it was so fun! that transformation makes me so happy. i love working with our stylist kurt johnson and the mutual joy we feel when we find the perfect look/energy. i grew up in a pretty rigid, binary world - i used to try on dresses and makeup and stuff when I was in school, but I treated it more like a joke ‘cause I felt a lot of shame around it. so doing things like this now and getting to fully embrace the beauty of it is so special - thank you for having us!!
